Substitute Information

IN ORDER TO BECOME A SUBSTITUTE IN THE HADDON HEIGHTS SCHOOL DISTRICT, PLEASE SUPPLY THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTATION:

  • RESUME
  • COPY OF TEACHER CERTIFICATION OR COPY OF SUBSTITUTE CERTIFICATION
    • If you do not have a teacher certification or substitute certification, please see How to Apply for a Substitute Credential on the following page for instructions.
  • COPY OF FINGERPRINTING - County (07) District (Haddon Heights 1880)
  • If you have never been fingerprinted by another school district:

    1. Pay administrative fee(s) for the criminal history background clearance and print out the IdentoGO New Jersey Universal Fingerprint Form from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Office of Student Protection webpage ($11)
    2. Go to the Identogo Website to schedule an appointment and pay fingerprinting fees ($66.05 for those who have never been fingerprinted in New Jersey, or $29.75 if previously printed through the NJDOE subsequent to March 2003)
    3. Attend the scheduled appointment time and get fingerprinted. Make sure to bring the following to your scheduled appointment:
      • Picture Identification (ID) Note: Foreign passports will no longer be accepted as proof of identification
      • IdentoGO New Jersey Universal Fingerprint Form
      • Verify criminal history status form

    If you have been fingerprinted through another school district and have been continually substituting in that district, you can transfer your prints.  If there has been a break in service, you must go through the archive process.  Either way, please visit the criminal history background clearance to transfer or archive your fingerprints.

  • PHYSICAL EXAM, MANTOUX (TB) TEST, DRUG SCREENING
    • To be completed by the district physician’s office (instructions will be provided later)

Once everything is received, your paperwork will be forwarded to one of the school principals who will set up an interview with you.  After the interview is completed and you are recommended by the principal, you will be placed on our board agenda for approval.

How to Apply for a Substitute Credential

Step One: Seek and Obtain a Sponsor School District (Haddon Heights School District)

Step Two: Complete Criminal History Record Check Process

If you have never been fingerprinted by another school district:

  1. Pay administrative fee(s) for the criminal history background clearance and print out the IdentoGO New Jersey Universal Fingerprint Form from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) Office of Student Protection webpage ($11)

Step Three: Apply for the Substitute Credential Online

Apply online on New Jersey Educator Certification (NJEdCert) for the substitute credential and pay the $125.00 application fee. Official transcripts should be sent directly from the college/university to the [email protected]. If you are applying online for your substitute certificate for the first time, you must upload your Applicant Approval Employment History (fingerprinting approval form). If you are applying to renew your substitute certificate and you have had no break in service, please contact our office so we can supply you with the required Verification of Employment letter that must be uploaded in place of your Applicant Approval Employment History. Upon completion of the online application, Applicants should record their individual Tracking Number generated by NJEdCert during the application process, and then deliver the following information/documentation with your tracking number to your Sponsor School District (Haddon Heights School District)

  1. Sealed college transcripts proving at least 60 college credit hours (substitute credential) or send electronic official transcripts directly to [email protected]
  2. Approved criminal history status check
